Melomakarona

Ingredients
For the dough:
- 2 cups olive oil
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¾ cup orange juice
- ¾ cup cognac
- 7-8 cups sifted flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cooking soda
For the syrup:
- 2 cups honey
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- An orange peel
Method
- Beat together the first 4 ingredients. Sift the flour, baking powder and cooking soda 3 times. Add the sifted combination in the first mixture with the olive oil and stir well.
- Mould small quantities (in the shape of an egg) and give them oblong shape. Place them on baking paper and bake under medium fire for 30 minutes.
- Boil the ingredients for the syrup. Let it cool down and drop the hot baked melomakarona in the cold syrup.
- Let the melomakarona in the syrup for 15 -20 sec. then take them out and place them on a plater.
- Sprinkle them with honey, chopped walnuts and cinnamon.
