TOPKAPI (1964)

Beautiful thief Elizabeth Lipp (Mercouri) and criminal genius Walter Harper (Maximilian Schell) put together a plan to steal an emerald-encrusted dagger from Istanbul's Topkapi Palace. As part of their crew, they hire small-time hustler Arthur Simon Simpson (Peter Ustinov) to act as their fall guy. When the Turkish secret police capture Simpson at the border, they persuade him to spy on his partners in crime, mistakenly believing that they are Communist agents plotting an assassination. The film won an Academy Award in 1965, with Peter Ustinov taking home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor.

NEVER ON SUNDAY (1960)

A look at the life of Ilya, (Mercouri) a carefree Greek prostitute, who lives in the port of Piraeus and meets an American scholar Holmes (Dassin), an American tourist and classical scholar who adores all things Greek. The two try to change each others' perception and way of living for the better. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (Manos Hadjidakis for "Never on Sunday").

HE WHO MUST DIE (1957)

ESCAPE TO ATHENA (1979)

The movie is set during the II WW. It is an adventure war film with some comedy elements about a strong Greek resistant movement that took place on a small island. This movement prepares the landing of the Allies and plans to overtake a prisoner camp, run by an Austrian general (Roger Moore). This Austrian general loves antiques and actually has forced his prisoners to work in archaeological excavations, in exchange for a more comfortable treatment. Also starred Terry Savalas, Claudia Cardinale, and David Niven.

FOR THE LOVE OF BENJI (1977)

Even when he is supposed to be on holidays, Benji the dog is never far away from adventure.
