Industrial Gas Museum

Α monument of industrial heritage that provided energy and lighting to Athens for about 130 years.

In 2013, the first Industrial Gas Museum of Athens opened to the public in order to promote and protect a monument of industrial heritage that provided energy and lighting to the capital for about 130 years. The activities of the Industrial Gas Museum coexist harmoniously with the events of the Technopolis City of Athens , currently a meeting point for cultural events annually.

A visit to the Industrial Gas Museum includes a museum path in specific parts of the plant. Through this museum path, you can follow the production line of the lighting gas, admire the old machinery, discover the role of entrepreneurs and that of factory workers, learn about the working conditions and become familiar with concepts such as industrial heritage and archaeology.

A tour for the senses

Seven new “interactive spots” with the form of yellow boxes have been added to the museum’s tour. It is an alternative tour where you have to participate in order to “discover” the information. You can smell, see, feel, hear…even taste the history of the Gasworks. The tour for the senses is suitable for families with children aged 3 years old and above and of course anyone who is looking for an unforgettable experience in the Industrial Gas Museum.
