Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum

The Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum (ILJM) is the only jewelry museum in Greece. Τhe Museum’s permanent collection includes over 4.000 pieces of jewelry and micro sculptures from over 50 collections designed by the museum’s founder, Ilias Lalaounis, between 1940 and 2000. The permanent collection is enriched with donations including jewelry and decorative arts from around the world.

The main museum edifice was the original workshop of Ilias Lalaounis Company. The alterations of the space were designed by Bernard Zehrfuss (1908-1996) and the architectural plan was refined and carried out by the Architect, Vassilis Gregoriadis with the Engineer, George Athanasoulis.

The Museum acts as an international center for decorative arts and crafts, with an emphasis on goldsmithing and contemporary studio jewelry. Over the years, the ILJM has organised more than 80 temporary exhibitions with decorative arts from Museum and private collections. 1.200 specialised educational programs have reached over 80.000 children and 60.000 adults while visitors count more than ½ million. Its future agenda includes introducing new educational methods for cultural education through fun and inspirational activities for both children and adults.

The museum is located on Karyatidon and Kallisperi Streets, just off the esplanade of Dionysiou Areopagitou St. on the south side of the Acropolis, below the Theatre of Dionysos. Visitors can reach the museum by taxi, bus and the subway. The Acropolis Metro station is just a 2 minute walk.
