LEFKADA

Lefkada, a water sports paradise

Beaches of great beauty line the island coast

Picture-perfect Porto Katsiki and Egremnoi, busy Gialos, far-stretching sandy Kathisma, peaceful Myloi, and windy Agios Giannis lie on the west side of Lefkada; East and south there are cosmopolitan Nydri, amazing Syvota and Vassiliki. Some of them are sheltered and sandy, some marked by stunning high white cliffs and deep turquoise waters; no matter which one you choose, they will all offer you unforgettable moments of fun and joy.

If you are a water sports fan, Lefkada is a must-visit place for you. Just put on your playful mood and feel the adrenaline rush as you enjoy your favourite activities across the island.

A Windy Place

The waters of Lefkada are famous with Greek and foreign surfers alike. The wind’s strength that reaches its peak in the afternoon has many a time earned Vassiliki beach, a globally acclaimed surf spot, a place in the TOP 10 beaches in the world and in the TOP 3 in Europe. Slalom and free style in side shore conditions are a normal here. In the North of the island, not far from the town of Lefkada, the beach of Agios Giannis almost pairs up with Vassiliki weather-wise, and its waters mostly attract kite surfers. Huge kites glide on the waves at a great speed before soaring up in the air. Windsurfing schools and equipment shops provide the necessary gear to first-timers and those deciding to participate on the spur of the moment.

Carefree joy

Water sports rule on Lefkada! Enjoy pedalo, canoe and water ski rides, or indulge in the pleasure of more advanced activities, ranging from barefoot to mono ski, double ski, wake board and knee board. If you want to try both beach games and water games, you are in the right place. You can try fly-fish, tubes, banana, crazy-sofa, big marble, etc. A water sports facility in the area of Nydri will offer you equipment and expert guidance so that you can enjoy your favourite sport in all safety. Go parasailing over the bay of Vassiliki and all the way to the beautiful island of Scorpio – once owned by Onassis, the famous Greek tycoon. Paragliding is a great choice too, especially when you want to go downhill over the area of Kathisma and land on the beautiful beach.

Sea routes

The beautiful landscapes are followed by equally beautiful seascapes, with azure waters washing white sands in coves adorned with picturesque fishing villages. Sail around the island and explore all those secret spots. Lefkada town is the proud owner of a well-equipped marina which can berth up to 620 vessels, attracting all seafarers in quest of fun and adventure on Lefkada Island, as well as on islets opposite Nydri: Pringiponissia, Meganissi with its numerous coves, Kalamos and Kastos with secluded beaches and sea caves. If diving is your preferred activity, Lefkada’s sea bed will welcome you into its fascinating underwater world and offer you memorable images to cherish when you get back home.
