FESTIVAL
KASTANITSA / TRIPOLI
Chestnut Festival 2025
The 41st Chestnut Festival will take place on 25-26 October, in Kastanitsa, Peloponnese.
The Festival will be held inside the village, spanning from one end to the other, making it possible to walk it all along, get informed and have fun.
Upon welcome, you will be offered a map and instructions on the events as well as treats, such as mountain tea, warm trahana (a traditional soup), and boiled chestnuts.
Visitors will move along the "Chestnut Route," in a circle through the village. The Cultural Centre hall will be open with various souvenirs and chestnut-based sweets. The Environmental Information Centre and the Museum of Traditional Professions will also be open during the festival.
A Children's Workshop and the Fairytale Corner will be available for our little friends, as well as an information booth about Tsakonia, the Tsakonian dialect, and its history.
In the two squares, tables will be set up, where boiled goat, pork with chestnuts, beans soup, traditional pies, honey wine, mastiha liqueur, and tsipouro will be served. And, of course, grilled chestnuts! All of the above will be accompanied by music and dancing, while various dance groups will showcase local dances.
Please note that Kastanitsa is a mountainous village and not flat (thus not suitable for people with mobility issues or difficulty walking long distances).
