Big names star in the musical summer of Athens

Athens is ahead of a much promising musical summer, if one takes a look at the line-ups of established concert events of the city, to which important names of the international music scene are constantly added. Lana Del Rey, Parov Stelar, Dropkick Murphys, The Last Shadow Puppets, Muse, Beirut, Editors, PJ Harvey and James are just some of the names announced while other interesting surprises are imminent. This year, Athens also welcomes a new festival, the “Release Athens”, which starts with Beirut coming to the Plateia Nerou (Water Square) on June 1, returning to Athens after years of absence. The wonderful “Daughter” will be performing on the same night. Parov Stelar will appear two days later at the same venue. On the other hand, Sigur Ros is a band that knows how to play evocative music and will close the Release Athens 2016 on 13/6. The “Rockwave Festival” that celebrates its 21st anniversary this year begins on June 5 at Terra Vibe, Malakasa, hosting the Last Shadow Puppets and the Dropkick Murphys from Boston. Turbonegro from Norway is the third big name of the festival. Another classic musical event is the “Ejekt Festival”, which starts on 8/7 with Editors while James seal the event’s first day with their presence. The 23rd of July could be labeled as Ejekt’s big day, as Muse are headlining the festival.
