Secret Greece: 3 ski resorts within easy reach from Athens
Over time, most visitors to Greece mainly enjoy the sun and the sea and few know that there are also highly remarkable ski resorts. Three of them are, in fact, very close to
Athens and are a nice idea for an easy and quick trip just outside the capital, especially when the first snow falls, usually from December onwards. The country’s largest ski centre lies
on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, at an altitude of 1,600 to 2,250 m. After last year’s renovation, it features top-class infrastructures and equipment that can be seen in few parts around the world. Most options for dining, accommodation and après-ski fun are to be found in the nearby town of
Arahova.
Kalavryta also has a ski resort of its own: it is highly popular among young people and is located near the namesake town of the
Peloponnese with its cafés, restaurants and hotels.
The ski centre of Mount Mainalo in
Arcadia is more family-friendly and has pretty easy slopes and many facilities for younger guests. It is under renovation since last year.
