Event: El Greco Year, discover the Cretan grand master

A great painter, sculptor and architect and, for many people, one of the precursors of modern art, Domenikos Theotokopoulos, of Cretan descent, achieved great things in Toledo, Spain, where he also acquired the nickname “El Greco”. The 400th anniversary of his death last year gave rise to the “El Greco Year”, which was celebrated with retrospective exhibitions both in Toledo and in Athens, attracting thousands of visitors. If you come to Athens this winter, don’t miss the 4 exhibitions that continue also in the first months of 2015: “Friends and patrons of El Greco in Toledo” and “Domenikos Theotokopoulos between Venice and Rome” in the Benaki Museum and its Pireos Street Annexe respectively; “Domenikos Theotokopoulos before El Greco” in the Byzantine and Christian Museum; “The depiction of death in the work of El Greco” in the Museum of Cycladic Art.
