A birthday spa weekend in Aidipsos

Situated in Northern Evia, I felt pleased to be spending my birthday weekend treating myself to a spa in the seaside village of Aidipsos. I wasn’t looking forward to having to get the bus at 06:45 from Athens, however! It was a smooth trip.

From Liossion Bus station we travelled through mountainous countryside to Arkitsa in Central Greece, then a half hour ferry ride deposited me at my destination.  I had booked the Knossos-Spa Hotel for a special rate of 170 Euros for two-night accommodation including: breakfast, massage, jacuzzi, sauna & body exfoliation.  So good were the treatments, on that first night after the massage I ended up sleeping solidly for 12 hours straight (or maybe that was the early morning rise)!

Whatever the reason for such a long, dreamless sleep I’ll never know.  What I do know is that I woke up revived, refreshed and eager to explore my surroundings.  Aidipsos in the winter is -well, let’s be honest- dead!  But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy strolling along the seafront, appreciating nature: the sun on the sea, the hot springs further down the coast and locals chattering amiably to each other. There are a lot of hotels there, most of them shut up for winter. I imagine in the spring and especially the summer they come to life, helping the transformation of Aidipsos from a sleepy seaside town to one of gaiety and fun.

So, if you’re looking for a relaxing and sensibly priced weekend away from the hustle and bustle and to treat yourself and your beloved to special treatments, I’d highly recommend The Knossos-spa Hotel and Aidipsos.
