My Chania

Photographer Stefanos Kastrinakis is taking part in a contest organized by “Reset Greece” with the winner earning a trip to Brussels, where they will be rewarded in a special ceremony at the European Parliament.

His entry is about the Venetian port of Chania. "The Venetian port in Chania was built by the Venetians from 1320 until 1356. The port had a key role in the trade and control of the Sea of Crete against piracy. The Venetian port has a capacity of 40 galleys. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece nowadays. The characteristic monument of the port is the lighthouse. It was built by the Venetians at the port’s entrance and was renovated by the Egyptians (1830-1840) in its current form. It always fascinates visitors to the city and is one of the most photographed monuments in Crete."
