Naxos - a magnificent natural landscape!

Naxos

My father comes from Naxos, from the amazing village of Filoti A place of wild beauty, creativity, and free-spirited people - like me ;)

Naxos Greece is in the center of the Cyclades islands group. It is the biggest and the greenest island of the Cyclades, a magnificent natural landscape!

When you're in Greece, the best way to enjoy all that the country offers is by visiting Naxos. This stunning island is known for its beautiful scenery and amazing local products. It consists of mountains, green valleys, beautiful beaches, and rural villages. From its crystal clear waters to the ancient ruins it contains, there's plenty to see and do on Naxos. The profusion of historic sites is due to their wonderful ancient past and significant effects on the Venetians and the Franks. Portara, the surviving entrance of an ancient temple devoted to the Greek deity Apollo, is the most distinctive of them all - and a Naxos symbol. Whatever your interests, Naxos has something for you.

What to Expect on Your Visit to Naxos

When you visit Naxos, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of activities. From visiting the picturesque villages, museums, and contemporary art galleries, there's something for everyone on Naxos. Chora, Naxos' capital, is a beautiful blend of Venetian and ancient Cycladic architecture. The majestic Venetian fortress, perched above the Cycladic whitewashed buildings of Chora, exudes ancient elegance. Regarding museums, you shouldn't miss The Archaeological Museum of Naxos, The Temple of Demeter Museum at Gyroulas, Sagri, the Archaeological Museum of Apiranthos, and the statues of Kouros. Two of my favorite stops, on the island, are at Bazeos Tower which hosts international art events and exhibitions and the artwork in the abandoned hotel in Aliko.

Furthermore, the island has many picturesque villages, such as Apeirantos, Filoti, Chalki, and many more; you would love to explore and buy local products like cheese and citron liqueur. Whether you're looking for a day of relaxation or something more exciting, there are many options.

Moreover, one of the most popular places to visit on the island is the endless, sandy beaches. Some of them are Plaka beach, Agios Prokopios beach, Aliko Beach (Hawaii), Mikri Vigla beach, Sahara beach (Limanakia), Pyrgaki beach, Maragas beach and Orkos. With crystal clear waters and stunning views, it's easy to spend a day in the sun and enjoy your meal by the seaside at the beach tavernas or have a full day of windsurfing since it's a popular destination for water sports lovers.
