Athens welcomes the summer with new bars

Summer is the ideal time of year for walks around Athens, enjoying drinks and socializing at the brand-new bars of the city. Many new openings have taken place in the area of Piraeus. Our first stop is “Mary Pickford” (54-56, Akti Koumoundourou, Mikrolimano), which is the intriguing outcome of the cooperation between the award-winning “Varoulko Seaside” seafood restaurant by Lefteris Lazarou and the award-winning bar “Baba Au Rum” of Athens, which is one of the 50 best bars in the world. Also in Piraeus, the all-day place “Che” (151, Karaiskou Str.) has an ambiance that pays tribute to the timeless Latin American design and boasts copy of a Freida Kalo mural that watches the patrons who inundate the tiki bar in the courtyard, while the “Rockfellas Excelsior” (Marina Zeas) has made a new start and presents its new cocktail list. In the southern suburb of Alimos, the “Nalu” (Poseidonos Avenue, Akti tou Iliou) invites the team of the bar “Bank Job” of Athens for a pop-up appearance called “Bank Job Escape,” with cocktails inspired by police stories. Our next stop is the funky and feel-good “Finca Vigia” further up to the north, in Neo Psychico (304, Olympionikon Str.), where the cocktail list draws inspiration from Ernest Hemingway’s books in a house that is reminiscent of Cuba and full of paintings that praise the female body. Last but not least and closer to the city centre, the “Tiki Bar Athens” (15, Falirou Str., Koukaki) lives up to its name, creating an all-summer venue that focuses on the golden age of cocktail, in Hawaii and the Caribbean of the Prohibition, taking its patrons on a trip to the Tropics.
