Nisyros: the alternative island that acquires a strong artistic colour

In the picturesque - almost exotic – off-the-beaten-track island of the Dodecanese, next to cosmopolitan Kos, the lava has created wonders. Apart from the hiking trails, the unique beaches and authentic hospitality, the volcano is the real star of Nisyros and it looks like is has affected the vibes.  In recent years, in fact, a neo-bohemian artistic community has made the island its haunt, while two artistic productions that take place this year on the island show that Nisyros is the centre of (artistic) attention! The Onassis Cultural Centre and “six d.o.g.s” present an ambitious and truly original project in the charmingly eerie environment of an active volcanic crater. Throughout the night of August 18 - with the August full moon being the unique source of light- 15 musicians will improvise live without previously rehearsing. Opening: 18/8 at 19.58. End: 19/8 at 06.32. Stefanos crater, Volcano Valley. Free entrance. Also, this year the Sterna Art Project, a unique artistic project based in the atmospheric half-ruined village of Emporios, invites 10 Greek and international curators to create a new “Experimental Education Protocol”, led by the renowned artist Angelos Plessas, at the historic building of the Baths of Mandraki. The process of this experimental training will be open to the public. Duration: until 20/8.
