AROUND GREECE
The highest mountainous vineyards in Greece are to be found in Metsovo, at elevations ranging from 950m
- 1000m. This is where Cabernet Sauvignon was first planted on Greek soil. It is now cultivated on practically all of Greece’s viticultural zones. Other wine producing varieties include Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Traminer, Chardonnay, and Vlachiko.
Make sure you also taste Debina, a wine made from an Epirus grape variety cultivated in 95% of the vineyards in the Zitsa viticultural zone. It produces the renowned white wine PDO Zitsa, as well as well-known semi-sparkling and sparkling wines. Wines produced from this variety have a refreshing acidity and they are a perfect match to local dishes.
