My fair lady

Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe’s “perfect musical” My fair lady, one of the most successful and much-loved Broadway musicals, is presented for the first time in Greece in its full unedited version by the GNO Alternative Stage.

The romantic story of a linguistics professor in early-20th century London who tries to transform a flower girl into a refined upper-class lady comes to life conducted by Stathis Soulis, directed by Giannos Perlegkas (who also plays Professor Higgins), Dimitris Dimopoulos (lyrics) and Maria Kyriazi and Giannos Perlegkas (pose), with the participation of an excellent cast of GNO soloists.

The legendary musical is an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion. It premiered οn Broadway in 1956 starring Julie Andrews in the role of Eliza Doolittle and Rex Harrison in the role of Dr Higgins. It was immediately met with huge success earning the title of the most enduring musical in the history of Broadway at the time. Worthy of its theatrical reputation and success was also its cinematic adapation in 1964, directed by George Cukor with Audrey Hepburn in the role of Eliza Doolittle, a classical movie that was awarded with eight Oscars.
