Otello

The leading opera "Otello" by Giuseppe Verdi is presented at the Heraklion Cultural Conference Centre, in collaboration with the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre of Rijeka, in a production that has been awarded as the Best Opera Production (Croatian Theatre Biennial Award) for the artistic seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17.

The musical direction is performed by the internationally renowned conductor Myron Michaelides and the direction and dramaturgy by the famous Croatian director and artistic director of the Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka, Marin Blažević.

The opera in four acts, based on William Shakespeare's masterpiece of the same title, depicts the story of the black governor of Cyprus and general of the Republic of Venice, Otello, who falls victim to the hatred of one of his officers, Iago. The latter deceitfully convinces Otello that his wife, Desdemona, is cheating on him with Cassius.
The Heraklion audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the masterful way in which Verdi renders the plot, both with the economy of means of his music and with its explosive power, making his penultimate opera, a monument of the world's lyric theatre.
