A History of Revolutions

The Ilias Lalaounis Jewellery Museum (ILJM) presents the group exhibition of contemporary art "Dressing Stories of the Revolution: Greece as a starting point for contemporary art creation", until Friday 20 October, 2023.

The exhibition showcases the works of 31 renowned artists, along with 5 teachers and 28 students from Greek public silversmithing schools. Drawing inspiration from the historical exhibition "Form & Function, the sequence of design, 200+200" at the ILJM, the contemporary artists delve into the study of the Greek Revolution. They aim to offer their unique interpretations through jewelry and objects using a combination of traditional and contemporary materials and techniques.

In this exhibition, the creators explore the Greek Revolution and infuse their own perspectives into jewelry and object forms. They utilize both traditional and contemporary materials and techniques to transform the past into contemporary works that reflect the concerns of today's societies. The exhibition showcases a diverse range of objects, including oversized pins, polymorphic body jewelry, vests, colored necklaces, table objects, and micro-sculptures. These artistic creations dynamically incorporate symbols and symbolism, employing materials such as precious metals, fabrics, garment imprints, colorful enamels, and clay.

Please note that the museum is closed on public holidays.
