Visiting Greece in 2013

Below I have listed my top 6 things to do while in Greece:
1) The sunrise and sunset in Santorini is one of the most picturesque in the world, as it settles over the crystal clear waters. This should be at the top of your list if you plan on visiting Greece.
2) Acropolis of Athens: The architecture and rich history of Acropolis is evident from the moment you set foot in the area. If you are a student then remember to bring your student card as you can pay a substancially lower price. The heat can get quite hot throughout the day, so it is worth making the trip to Acropolis early as you can, so you can escape to a cafe once the sun blazes down. The Acropolis Museum is also a great place to eat lunch with surprisingly good prices.
3) Make friends with the locals in a Taverna: The Greek citizens are some of the most welcoming and friendly people you could meet in the whole of Europe, so don’t hold back and test out your Greek language skills. The homemade wines of Greece taste lip smackingly gorgeous, while the music playing in many of the Taverna’s will make you truly feel on holiday.
4) Climb Mount Lycabettus: Overlooking the entirety of Athens, climbing Mount Lycabettus should definitely be considered by any one in the shape to do so. But don’t worry if you aren’t quite at your peak level of fitness, as you can take a train up the mountain on the Funicular railway. It is said that you can sometimes see all the way to Peloponessos, if the sky is clear from clouds, while the views over Athens will make for some great snapshots.
5) Palace of Knossos in Crete: Crete, like Athens, has some of the most stunning architecture in Europe, with the Palace of Knossos being the highlight. Before visiting the palace, I would recommend having a read of some Greek mythology to really get yourself excited, as you can read about the legend of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth.
6) Watersports: Whether you are interested in trying kayaking, motor boat riding, scuba diving and snorkelling, windsurfing or banana boat rides, Greece has it all. The consistent winds help with beating the heat, while they offer an amazing opportunity to try a number of wind based sports. You can also gain your PADI course in a number of locations across the Greek beaches, allowing you to see the underwater life in the Ionian and the Aegean sea.
