On foot - Livaditis

Livaditis is a mountain village 50km away from the city of Xanthi. The region is ideal for hikers and nature lovers who want to stay and walk around the area, since the flora and fauna is rich here. 10 km away from Livaditis visitors can see the forest village Evrimanthos which has 15 autonomous houses and is surrounded by rich natural beauty.

It has specially designed entertainment areas, guest houses and restaurants where many conventions, such as the convention of mushroom lovers (the area has a great variety of mushrooms) have been hosted and is ideal for many activities such as mountaineering, 4x4 routes, mountain biking, trekking and horse riding. Also the scattered pathways are well maintained, formed and marked, therefore do not let the hikers to get lost. Through one of these pathways you can reach the imposing waterfall of Livaditis which is the largest in the Balkans and has 40m height. The waterfall of Livaditis is accessible from pathway “E6” and is of unique natural beauty all year long. The image of a frozen waterfall in winter doesn’t leave visitors unaffected.

In Livaditis is Chaintous forest with Arkoudorema, an area of great beauty and ecological importance that has been proclaimed as museum of nature and has trees which are more than 200 years of old. If you visit the area by the end of June do not miss to go to the annual Sarakatsan reunion where you can see traditional customs which are in harmony with the nature and history of the area, as well as natural scenery.
