Pomakochoria: It is a network of about 40 settlements located to the north of Xanthi and scattered on both sides of Echinos valley until the Greek-Bulgarian borders (on the road to Sminthi and Echinos). They are renowned for their unique architecture and culture as well as for the faithful preservation of the old traditions by the Muslim minority (Pomakoi). In the center of the region you will find mosques with tall minarets. Echinos is the main village of the region with the smoke houses standing in a row at the entrance. The beautiful villages of Oreo, Satres, Medousa and Kotani are also worth a visit.
