Ancient Diolkos

In Poseidonia you will see Ancient Diolkos. It is a cobbly road constructed to cover the needs of quick transfer of boats from Saronikos to Corinthian gulf and opposite. It was constructed in the beginning of 6th century and is related to Periandros tyranny in Korinthos. Its west part was reconstructed in the beginning of 4th century B.C. It was used for transferring small, mainly military boats. This type of usage is confirmed by sources up to the 9th century A.D.
