Monasteries - Prefecture of Xanthi

The picturesque chapel of Aghios Nikolaos Monastery, the glebe of Vatopediou Monastery is built on an islet located at the southern part of Vistonida lake at the Prefecture of Xanthi. In Ianthi, the churches of Akathistos Ymnos and Aghia Irini are the most remarkable ones. To the north of Ianthi, not far from the town center in the grove surrounding the town, on the road to Stavroupoli you will come across the following monasteries: Panaghia Archangeliotissa, also housing an ecclesiastical museum where relics, icons, and other utensils are kept (tel. 25410 29799, Metropolis of Ianthi: tel. 25410 22505, 25410, 28305), Pammegiston Taxiarchon, also housing the Ecclesiastical School and Panaghia tis Kalamous.
The church of Aghia Paraskevi, built in 1700, with interesting mural paintings, a remarkable wood carved chancel and a Beautiful Gate is located in Avdira. {}
Finally, in Genisea, there is a mosque of great historical and religious importance. {}
