Voulkania Lake

Lake Voulkania, lies in proximity to the village of Agios Nikolaos. On the lake bottom rests a sunken town. The area includes the site known as the "Channel of Cleopatra", through which the joint fleets of the queen of Egypt and Mark Antony passed in 31 BC --from Palero (Zaverda) to the outer port of Actium-- in order to confront the fleet of Octavian in the famous naval Battle of Actium.
