Fauna - Prefecture of Xanthi

In Nestos river delta the following lagoons are created: Eratinos, Agiasmatos, Keramoti, Gefiraki and Maggana.
Many bird species such as cormorant, pygmy cormorant, wild goose, reed canary-grass, great white heron and squacco heron live in this delta, while the waters of the biotope offer many species of fish, as well as many kinds of shells to the amateur and experienced fishermen.
In Vistonida lake 322 bird species including but not limited to little egret, flamingos, pygmy cormorant etc live. In the small forest, at the village entrance and its port, above the pine trees nest three kinds of herons: the grey heron, the little egret and the squacco heron.
