Wave Awards 2018: Greece Voted as the Second Favourite Worldwide Cruising Destination

Greece was voted as the second favourite worldwide cruising destination by the readers of Britain’s leading magazines on maritime cruising; “World of Cruising”, “Cruise Trade News” and “Cruise Ports & Destinations”. The country came up first in Europe and the Mediterranean and second worldwide after Jamaica’s first place and before Singapore's 3rd place.

The “Wave Awards 2018” event, owned and run by Real Response Media, took place in early March and was held at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London’s Covent Garden. The “World of Cruising” magazine is one of the most prominent British media that specialises in cruising. The magazine has an average monthly circulation of 30.000 copies distributed to subscribers, media agencies, cruise ships etc. Ninety two percent of its readership is of high income and education, aged over 45, while sixty eight per cent of the above number goes on two cruises per year.

The steady increase in the Greek cruising industry was pointed out at the “Seatrade Cruise Global” event that took place at Fort Lauderdale in Florida USA from March 5th to 8th. This positive outlook of an increase in cruising in 2018, within Greece and Europe, was foreseen during this important international event for maritime tourism.
A recent survey conducted by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has shown that during the past decade the European cruise market has had a steady growth. More than 6.9 million passengers have been recorded in 2017; Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland have had the largest shares of them. According to this survey, more than 1.95 million British chose to have a cruising holiday last year, spending an average of 10.4 days on vacation. Furthermore, the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic are the most popular cruising destinations as half of the European travellers choose them for their holidays.
