More and more Chinese tourists discover Greece as an ideal destination in Europe. Either for a relaxing holiday, a honeymoon, for shopping, or for cultural tourism, the Chinese keep on coming to the world of destinations Greece generously offers. And, of course, celebrities from the distant country follow the example.
Last April, the famous Chinese singer and composer Vae visited Athens, Santorini, Delphi, and Rhodes. Known for the poetical and philosophical feel to his lyrics, Vae had his record selling album with The Timeless Socrates in 2011, inspired obviously by the ancient Greek philosopher. With over 1,2 billion downloads, Vae has the most top-charted songs in China in the last three years. What is more, he was the top seller artist in China in 2011, with locals and internationals included alike.
During his stay in Greece, Vae did the shootings for the recently released photo album Vae meets Socrates – Unveil the Mythological Greece, Touch the warmth of winter. He also composed a song for his visit to Greece, expected to be released shortly.
On the other hand, Chen Luyu, the most famous TV presenter in China, was in Athens, Santorini and Hydra last June. Her show, A Date with Luyu, has been on for over 10 years, scoring a number of 70 million viewers daily. Chen Luyu was in Greece to film a tribute to the famous singer Liu Huan, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary with Lu Lu, famous too as a journalist. Liu Huan sang at the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics 2008. In the same year, the Greek audience had the joy to listen to him live at a concert in the Herodion Theatre of Athens. Broadcasting of the film in China was paired with the release of an album about the trip to Greece, the publication of a series of articles on the Chinese Press, and the production of travel documentaries.
Last but not least, the much-anticipated Beijing Love Story completed shootings on Santorini last July. Based on the famous TV series by the same name, the film features some of the greatest Chinese stars and it is expected to be viewed by no less than 214 million Chinese people after its premiere in February 2014.
