Kefalonian Beer

A new Greek beer coming from Kefalonia will soon be available. The circulation of the product will begin on the beautiful Island of the Ionian Sea and then across Greece. This premium lager beer with 5% alcohol content will be named ‘Kefalonian Beer’.

The beer is produced by Kefalonian & Ithaca Microbrewery; the first ever brewery on Kefalonia Island, located at Karavomylos area. Pioneers and initiators of the project are Giannis Polychronatos, Nikos and Kyriakos Moraitis, who seek to form a new consumer awareness of local products by creating a quality beer, with fine and intense flavour that will satisfy the most demanding beer lover. Simultaneously, their main concern is a constant pursuit for quality raw materials aiming towards an ongoing improvement of their product. They stated: "Our beer is made with passion, using selected materials and a dose of Kefalonian Kourlamada (meaning unique Kefalonian madness in a satiric way)"!

The brewery runs in a privately owned building where an area will be dedicated in receiving guests who want to try the beer as well as to tour the brewery in order to learn about its production process. Furthermore, visitors will find information about the nearby tourist attractions, the local history, tradition, products and customs.

Kefalonian Beer joins a large number of newly labeled beers in Greece which appeared in recent years on the market. Greek beers, loved by Greek and International consumers, have won several international distinctions. The Ionian Island of Corfu with its Microbrewery Corfu Beer produces five types of beer (lager, pilsner etc.) and Ginger Beer (also known as tsitsibira, ginger ale) which contain ginger extracts. Besides the Ionian Islands at the moment bigger or smaller breweries work in several parts of the country (Athens, Thessaloniki, Argos, Messinia, Sterea Ellada, Evoia, Chios, Santorini, Tinos etc.), which cover the market with a large variety of types of beer (pils, lager, blond, weiss). Enjoy Greek Beer with local dishes any time of the year!
