Athens was chosen to be the host city for the annual TBEX (Travel Blog Exchange) Europe for this year, the biggest international gathering of opinion leaders in tourism, via professional blogging and the popular social media. The meeting will take place on October 23 – 25 2014 in the Conference Centre of Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, and more than 1000 bloggers, travel writers, and social media specialists are expected to join in, as well as tour operators and related entrepreneurs doing business mainly through the internet, from Europe and North America.
During TBEX 2014 there will be a number of meetings, educational seminars and presentations with the participation of world renowned tourism experts and celebrities. A comprehensive programme of social events and activities in Athens and thereabouts will run parallel to the main programme. Coordination will be undertaken by the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) in collaboration with the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency of the City of Athens and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and the G.N.T.O.
The official announcement for TBEX was made during the Berlin International Tourism Trade Show in March 2014. Following a special reference to Athens’ very long history and its unique cultural heritage, the city’s modern aspects were stressed, such as good infrastructure, countless options for spending your free time, a particularly interesting culinary scene plus easy access to the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf or to major archaeological sites off the capital (Sounio, Delphi, Mycenae etc). About choosing Athens, Rick Calvert, the CEO of TBEX (Travel Blog Exchange) stated: “… it was immediately apparent that everyone in the city was excited about hosting TBEX, from the Mayor, to the City Council, to the entire staff at the ACVB, all of the hotels, restaurants, tour operators and other private industry partners. There are so many amazing stories to tell about the city and the surrounding area. Our attendees are absolutely going to love the city and the people of Athens. People are sure to be talking about TBEX Athens for years to come.”
TBEX is considered one of the most sought-after and demanding events of the global tourism community, as it will attract the most important and influential tourist and travel content creators on the internet (blogs, podcasts, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Flickr, Google+ and so on). TBEX Athens is a major step towards highlighting and promoting the Greek capital in the international tourism industry, as huge promotion of the host city takes place every year before, during and after the TBEX events, through numerous posts and reports as well as hundreds of millions of video views and comments on social media.
