A Family Affair picked up a Golden Award

A fascinating documentary about the life and music of the Xylouri family!

An important distinction has been won from the musical documentary 'A Family Affair' at the 28th FIPA Festival (Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels). Angeliki Aristomenopoulou got the Gold Award for the Performing Arts category for this documentary, under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization. The deep sentimental and exciting documentary by Angeliki Aristomenopoulou promotes Cretan music and tradition to Greek and international audiences, describing the life of the Xylouri family from Anogeia, Crete. This renowned Greek music family has thousands of fans around the world. Filming took a couple of years (2012-2014) between Crete and Melbourne Australia and the story is based on the family’s life. It reveals how three consecutive generations - the legendary Psarantonis (Antonis Xylouris), his son Psarogiorgis (Giorgos Xylouris), his two grandsons (Nick and Antonis) and granddaughter (Apollonia) - remain connected with the musical tradition of Crete and how this affects their choices.

The film highlights how important this heritage is for all Greeks and how the members of the Xylouri family have arrived to decisions about their life and music heavy with the rich and vibrant legacy that has always followed them. International audiences will be intrigued by the contrast of tradition and modern life, of the past combined with the future.
