Traditional Products - Prefecture of Rodopi

The Prefecture of Rodopi produces the renowned wine of Maroneia, tsipouro, ouzo, hard cherries from the "cherry villages” (kerasochoria) located at the foothill of Rodopi mountain range as well as fresh roasted chickpeas with various flavors (salty, peppery, sweet or caramelized). In Rodopi you will also find the renowned sujuk-lukum (like moustolabades with walnuts on a cordon), as well as all the varieties of lukum, siropiasta (syrup sweets), malebi, samali, halva, tahini, petimezi (sweet grape syrup), pies, striftopita (twisted pie), bougatses (Cream-Filled Filo Pastry) and coffee, freshly roasted in a unique way and full of aromas. It should come as no surprise that Komotini was declared “Gastronomical Center of the Balkans" by the Ministers of Tourism of the Balkan countries.

When in Rodopi, taste and buy:

  •  Chickpeas, dried fruit, pastries and freshly roasted coffee at the shops of the pedestrian precinct and the alleys of the center of Komotini.
  •  Hhome-made wine and tsipouro from the distillery of Kleanthis Kolitsis on the road to Iasmos-Xanthi, which you can visit. In the region of Iasmos, competitions are carried out during the local cultural festivities and the best tsipouro receives an award.
  •  Local wine of Ismarida from the vineyard of the company “MARONEIA S.A." which you can visit, tel.: 25330 21503
  •  Glyka tou koutaliou (preserved fruit in syrup), jams and other traditional preserves at Maroneia.
