Ladopita meaning oil pie is a traditional sweet from the mesmerizing island of Lefkada!

-1 cup of olive oil

-2 cup of water

-2 cups of sugar

-sesame, cinnamon, almonds (without its peel)

-1 kg of flour

-1/3 cup of semolina

Boil the water with sugar for 10 minutes until it becomes syrup like texture and keep it warm.

Heat the olive oil (save two table spoons for the end) in a shallow pot. Slowly add the flour, in order to create a thick mush and stir with a wooden spoon on medium heat until it turns gold. Add the warm syrup slowly and continue stirring until all liquids have evaporated. It should have the consistency of a soft halvah. Sprinkle your baking pan with sesame seeds, spread the mixture on the baking pan, and press it firmly to straighten up its surface, pour your remaining olive oil on top and then sprinkle some sesame seeds over the surface. Mark the pie’s surface in rhombs and put an almond on each one.

Cook on medium heat for 1 hour. When your pie comes off the walls of the pan easily, it is ready.

Powder with cinnamon and sugar and cut it when it’s cold.
