For the first time in Greece the Museum introduces to the public the impressive nomadic art of Central Asia and its peculiar aesthetic that focuses on the simple and the unpretentious.
Unique rugs originally made by Baluch and Turkmen nomads, silk ikats from Uzbekistan, as well as gold and silver jewelry with precious stones from Samarkand and Bukhara are on display. The exhibits belong to the Sarzetakis collection, which was formed in situ, and donated to the Museum in 2011. Its permanent exhibition will be held in the near future.
The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the collector Yiannis Sarzetakis and the curator is Despina Zernioti, Director of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art.
