Face Forward…into my home exhibition at EMST

The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST) introduces to the public the faces behind the refugee crisis with the temporary exhibition “Face Forward …into my home” that opened its doors in late November and runs until 18 February 2018.

“Face Forward…into my home” is an interactive art project focused on the stories of people who have been forced to leave their homelands and are rebuilding their life in Greece. The exhibition includes storytelling workshops inspired by a selection of contemporary artworks from the EMST collection, a photography exhibition and audio texts with the personal stories of refugees and asylum-seekers now living in the greater Athens area and benefiting from the Emergency Support To Integration and Accommodation (ESTIA) programme implemented by UNHCR.

The ESTIA programme helps thousands of asylum seekers and refugees living in Greece resume their normal lives by providing them with urban accommodation and monetary assistance. At the same time, “Face Forward …into my home” introduces these people as residents of a city that has embraced so many cultures, religions and ideas – a diversity that is defined through social solidarity and mutual respect, so that we can all feel “at Home”.

“Face Forward…into my home” was designed by EMST’s Education Department in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. It is funded by the European Commission’s department for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), as part of the ESTIA programme.
