28ο Rethymno Renaissance Festival

With the human face as its main theme – the one that has always been the source of inspiration for artists throughout the ages – starts on October 1st, 2017 the 28th Rethymno Renaissance Festival, titled “Portraits”.

Inspired by Retymnon-born composer and artistic director of the Greek National Opera, Mr George Koumentakis, this year’s Rethymno Renaissance Festival will take place on 1-15 October 2017 at Rethymno, Crete where every day for two weeks cultural venues and Venetian-era monuments located at the historic city of Rethymno will host a series of theatrical plays, concerts, art exhibitions and Renaissance art events.

The Fortezza Fortress with Erofili theatre and Ibrahim Han’s Mosque, the Pantelis Prevelakis Hall at Rethymno Music School, the “Spiti Politismou” venue and the Contemporary Art Museum are among other venues ready to welcome a series of events presented by also by Retymnon-born Alexis Kostalas.

Similarly to the Renaissance-era portraits every event featured in this year’s Festival aims to highlight a single person whose artistic creations, music or writings have left significant mark on our world.

Featured artists are carefully chosen from across the Balkans, the Mediterranean, Northern and Central Europe and of cource Greece, whereas this year the event is extremely fortunate to have several established Greek and foreign musicians originating from Retyhmno participate as well.

Entrance is free for most of the events. Free entrance for school and university students.
The 28th Rethymno Renaissance Festival is organized by the Municipality of Rethymnon and the non for profit municipal company - ΚΕDHR.
